Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
February 18, 2003

Meeting called to Order at 7:35pm by Siatuu (STU) Lavatai, Vice Prior..

Reading of previous Minutes were waived.

Present: Tim Burke, Mike Clauss, Jim Paine, Jeff Zell, Mike Barko, Dr. Vince Contreras, and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.

I. Old Business:

  1. Brotherhood Quarterly Social (March 2003)
    1. The next Brotherhood Quarterly Social is scheduled for Tuesday (03/18/2003). There was long discussion about holding this gathering on the East Bay. However, the majority of SVAC Executive Officers voted to hold this event at an East Bay location.   2. Annual Appeal & Alumni Information Letter
    1. Over (900) envelopes were mailed to SAMMY alumni, within the greater Bay Area. After accumulating a total expense: ($414.00), your support and monetary donations: ($685.00), allowed the SVAC to retain a profit of ($271.00) which will fund future SVAC activities and pay for any future Club expenses.
      1. Don't forget to support the Brotherhood, with your monetary donation. Details where to send your donations is listed on the Annual Letter/Annual Appeal. Your donations go a long way, to decrease our expenses.
  3. Beta Delta 40th Anniversary Reunion/SVACoSAM Social
    1. An invitation letter for the Beta Delta 40th Reunion/SVAC 
      Brotherhood Social (drafted by Prior John Paine) was presented at 
      tonight's meeting.  The following is a summary of events:
      1. Event Day/Date: Saturday, April 26, 2003.
      2. Alumni and Family BBQ and Picnic (San Jose State University BBQ pit area, near the Event Center box office) from 11am to 3pm. Tour of SJSU campus provided (by event coordinators) upon request.
      3. Brotherhood Dinner Banquet Registration and Cocktails at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown San Jose from 7pm to 8pm.
      4. Brotherhood Dinner Banquet begins at 8pm.
      5. Following dinner, there may be some speeches by "distinguished fratres" and music (from contracted disc jockey) and dancing.
      6. The Dinner Banquet and dance cost is ($65.00 per person).  Banquet tables of ten (10) can be RESERVED in advance. If you choose this group of ten table option, then please enclose a check for ($650.00) with the list of names of those alumni you want seated 
        at "your group of ten table."
      7. All other seating will be "OPEN seating," meaning those alumni who do not choose the "group of ten table option," will have to fill in other vacant seats (on a first come, first serve basis).

      9. The CONFIRMED venue location for the Beta Delta 40th Reunion/SVAC social event will be the Crowne Plaza Hotel, downtown San Jose (282 Almaden Boulevard, San Jose, CA 95113). For directions or other information, please call the hotel at (408-998-0400).
      10. A block of rooms (at the Crowne Plaza Hotel) has been reserved at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for $75.00 per room (single or double occupancy). Please inform the hotel that you are with the Silicon Valley Alumni Club group, to get this special rate.
      11. SVACoSAM sends out an invitation to all alumni who want to serve on the Reunion/SAMMY Social committee. We are still looking for any alumnus to assist in this event and other activities during (Saturday, April 26th).     1. Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory.
    2. We currently have 142 members on the SVACoSAM Yahoo website. Here's the URL: 
      (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconvalleysammies). So, if you haven't officially registered on Yahoo, then what are you waiting for. Register for your own Yahoo account, now!
  2. Exchequer (as per Fra Jeff Zell)
    1. Bank Account Grand Total: ($4,543.29). There were NO significant changes to this amount.
  3. Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra Stu Lavatai)

  5. Octagon Counsel (as per Vince Contreras)
    1. National HQ is in the process of sponsoring a National housing committee to raise money for chapter housing. This committee purpose will be to raise maney and loan money for chapter housing.
    2. National HQ is currently looking for a National Expanding Consultant to assist with Expanding or recolonizing SAMMY chapters.
    3. The Octagon will meet at Ceasar's Palace (Las Vegas, Nevada) during the weekend of (4/19 to 4/20/2003). If you are interested in attending then, please contact Dr. Vince Contreras, via his Email: DrWho@worldnet.att.net.

III. New Business:

  1. SAMMY (Golf Outing) Scramble
    1. Tentatively Scheduled for (May 2003) at Moffett Field Golf Course. Please continue to monitor your Emails for more details concerning this event.
      1. There was long discussion about establishing a minimum age limit for golfing participants. The motion: All golfers MUST be at least, 18 years old or older to play. (Motion introduced, by Counsel Lloyd Gordon, Second by Vice Prior Lavatai).
      2. After a tally of votes from SVAC Executive Council, Motion- Denied.
    2. Swearing-In of (2003) SVAC Executive Council.
      1. Swearing-In and affirmation of Oath of Office to be done at Brotherhood (March 2003) Social or the next SVAC business meeting in April 2003.

IV. Announcements:

  1. The next (SVACoSAM) gathering is our Brotherhood Quarterly-Social session, scheduled for Tuesday, (03/18/2003). Continue to monitor your emails for exact details.
