Meeting called to Order at 7:18pm by John Paine, Prior.
Reading of previous Minutes were waived.
Present: Mark Sanchez, Jeff Zell, Keith Barna, Lloyd Gordon,Mike
Barko, Vince Contreras and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.
Absent: Jeff Kuch, Exchequer.
I. Old Business:
- Brotherhood/Social in September
- Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel,(Palo Alto, CA). Approximately, 20 SAMMIES in attendance. A lot of NEW faces and sharing of stories
from the "good old days."
- Recognition given to Fra Vince Contreras for coordinating a fun event.
- The next Brotherhood/Social is scheduled for Tuesday, (12/17/2002). Location and details for this event to be announced in
a further Email.
- SAMMY Scramble Golf Tournament
- This event is scheduled for Saturday (11/2/2002) and will be held at the Moffett Field Golf Course (Mountain View, CA).
- Start Time (for Tee Off) is at 11:00am.
- Presently, we have twenty (20) golfers registered. We need eight (8) more to meet the quota.
This event is OPEN to ALL Alumni, Family and Friends.
- If you know of anybody at work, in your family or in your neighborhood who loves to play golf OR who wants to hit a few balls
around, encourage them to register! Please contact our event coordinator: Prior John Paine, via Email: (japaine1@aol.com), for
more details about this event.
- Beta Delta 40th Reunion/SAMMY BROTHERHOOD-SOCIAL Event
- The 40th Reunion Committee(Chairpersons: Fra Mark Sanchez &
Prior John Paine) presented detailed information and the proposal for a potential local site for this event.
- After long discussions on this event, the committee and
Executive Council reached a concensus and the following motion was
made: (by Fra Contreras, Seconded by Fra Mike Barko)
- That the Beta Delta 40th Reunion be renamed as the Beta Delta 40th
Reunion/SAMMY BROTHERHOOD-SOCIAL Event, since we will allow (NON-Beta
Delta) SAMMIES and their loved ones (ie. immediate family and significant others, etc.) to attend.
- That the MAXIMUM event cost, PER PERSON, be ($65.00) for banquet &
disc jockey fees ONLY. Event merchandise (ie. Tee-shirts, mugs, glasses, pins, buttons, etc.) may be offered, but their cost is
EXCLUDED from the MAXIMUM event cost. If an additional brotherhood/social event is held on another day (ie. Friday or
Sunday) then, ALL attendees, for those events, will PAY for their own
drinks and meals, immediately on the day of those events. Additional
events will be CONFIRMED by the Reunion Committee.
- That the location for this venue NOT be limited nor restricted to
any local hotel. Although the Double Tree Hotel (San Jose,CA) was proposed as the primary location for our venue,
Executive Council and the Reunion Committee will welcome other proposed locations to be
considered.
- That the event date be scheduled for (Saturday, 04/26/2003).
- The Council and Reunion Committee will consider all other venue location proposals, until Monday (10/28/2002). If no other venue
locations are proposed, then our event will be held at the Double Tree Hotel. Our deadline, to submit a deposit: ($5,000) to reserve
OUR venue is Wednesday (10/30/2002). Fra Mark Sanchez is negotiating
with the Hotel Representative(s) to waive our deposit OR to discount
it significantly.
- Nominated to serve on the Reunion Committee were Fratres: Tim Burke and Sean Nelson. Fra Burke is former Beta Delta Chapter Advisor
and he is looking for other locations for our venue. Fra Nelson has
experience coordinating pledge dances and other social events during
his Beta Delta tenure and their help is invaluable and appreciated.
- Reunion Committee and Council will make its FINAL decisions for the Reunion/Brotherhood Social event location venue on Wednesday
(10/30/2002).

- Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory.
- We currently have 141 members on the SVACoSAM Yahoo website. Here's the URL:

3. Our 1st Annual Alumni Fishing Photos is posted in the Website Photo Album.

Exchequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
- Bank Account Total: Approximately ($4560.00).
- A check in the amount of ($995.00)will be sent to Fra John Dollison, Sigma Sigma Co-Chapter Advisor, for reinbursement of Sigma
Sigma's NEW stove. The stove has been installed and is working!

- No Report.
- Prior Report (as per Fra John Paine)
- Delta Iota alumni contacted Prior Paine, via email, to seek advice on starting and coordinating a SAMMY Alumni Club for their region.
- A copy of Fra Tim Burke's letter, stating the conditions for the reinstatement of Beta Delta Chapter (San Jose State University), was
sent to SAMMY National HQ, attention to Fra Aaron Girson.
- Beta Delta left SJSU Greek Life status, during Spring '97 and has satisfied the five (5) years forfilled "the Separation from SJSU
Greek Life period" requirement. Fra Burke mentioned at a previous meeting that Beta Delta left SJSU in good standing and will have to
fill out a ONE page worksheet petitioning to Reestablish at SJSU.
- National Reps are scheduled and confirmed to assist with RUSH at
SJSU. Exact arrival of these reps are pending. Continue to monitor your Emails for more details on assisting with Beta Delta RUSH at
SJSU.
- Octagon Counsel (as per Vince Contreras)
- Dr. Vince Contreras will attend an Octagon meeting on December 15th.
- Severe Violations of SAMMY Risk Management Policies will be discussed. Several SAMMY chapters nationwide may face disciplinary
action (ie. Probation or Indefinite Suspension). Vince will report the highlights of the Octagon meeting in January 2003.

- Regional Governor (as per Jerry Low)
- Report was previously forwarded to SVACoSAM alumni. If you did NOT receive his report, please contact the SVACoSAM Vice Prior, via his

III. New Business:
- Beta Delta Re-Colonization (as per Fra Tim Burke)
- Fra Tim Burke is still attempting to contact the San Jose State University
(SJSU) Greek Life Coordinator: Angela Harper. Unfortunately, Ms. Harper has NOT replied to Fra Burke's letter.
Tim will keep us updated when he receives a reply from Ms. Harper.
- Annual Letter/Annual Appeal
- The Annual Letter/Annual Appeal is completed and will be distributed to alumni soon. Prior Paine is waiting for labels from
Nationals, with current contact information for SAMMY Alumni living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please monitor your Emails
and Mailboxes for more information about the Annual Letter/Annual Appeal.
- Don't forget to help out the Brotherhood, with your monetary donation. Details where to send your donations is listed on the
Annual Letter/Annual Appeal. Your donations go a long way, to decrease our expenses. SVACoSAM is a Non-Profit Organization and your
monetary donations are tax-deductible.
IV. Announcements:
- Fra Eric Graber got married, last month.
The next (SVACoSAM) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, (11/19/2002). Continue to monitor your emails for exact details
about this meeting.
