Meeting called to Order at 7:55pm by Fra Mike Barko, Prior.
Reading of previous Minutes were waived.
Present: Keith Barna, Joel Odelsen, Jeff Zell, Ben Alizadeh, Chris Hilton,
Lloyd Gordon, Mike Barko, Vince Contreras, and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.
Absent: Jeff Kuch, Recorder.
I. Old Business:
- Fishing Charter Trip (as per Fra Lloyd Gordon and Fra Stu Lavatai)
- Scheduled for Sunday (July 21st). There are twelve (12) Advanced Paid
fishermen registered. We still have room on the boat. We are trying to
register a total of twenty (20) fishermen. All alumni, family and
friends welcome to register in advance.
- We have room for eight (8) more Advanced Paid fishermen. Advanced
PAID registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Contact Fra
Stu Lavatai, via Email: (sammystu@hotmail.com)
for more fishing trip details.
- Update: (as of Friday, July 19th) All twenty (20) spots aboard
the boat are full. We are NOT taking anymore advanced paid
registrations at this time. If you attempt to register for the fishing
trip, your name will be placed on a waiting list.
- Cyber Groups (as per Fra John Paine)
- John Paine and Fra Jeff Zell designed a SAMMY website on Yahoo
Groups. You are invited to POST and READ messages from other
brothers throughout the world. (URL: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconvalleysammies)
- Read about current alumni news, the referral network, job
vacancies, upcoming brotherhood and social events and much more.
- If you have any questions about the NEW website, please send
all questions to the Group Moderators, via Email, John Paine (japaine1@aol.com)
OR Jeff Zell (jeff@asinine.com).
- Presently, we have 143 members registered. If you are having
difficulty accessing or posting messages to the SVACoSAM Yahoo
website, you may have to register for a Yahoo account.
- Bring Pics or any photos of you and the SAMMY alumni to the
next alumni meeting or submit them via Email to Prior John Paine (japaine1@aol.com)
or Jeff Zell (jeff@asinine.com),
so they may be added to the Yahoo website.
- Brotherhood & Social Events:
- San Jose Giants- Fra Paine will talk to Fra Jeff Kuch.
Proposal Tabled.
Gamma Theta- Picnic Day (for
all Active and Alumni Brothers) schedule for Saturday, (April 20,
2002) to be held at the Chapter House- 101 Russell Street in the
town of Davis.
Directions to the Chapter House at 101 Russell are:
Take hwy 80 to Davis, take hwy 113 to Russell, make right and go 2-3 miles to 101 Russell. For more information contact Nik Huerta

Second annual swimming pool and BBQ party- (Fra Keith Barna).
Fra Barna still trying to confirm dates and details for this event. Tabled
until next meeting.
Quarterly Social for June.
- Rescheduled due to scheduling conflicts. The next Quarterly Social
is scheduled for (September 17th). If we cannot hold this event at a
restaurant, it will be held at Prior John Paine's house. Tabled until
next meeting.
II. Reports

Recorder Report
- Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory.

Exchequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
- We have a grand total of approximately ($4,500). SVACoSAM will pay
($50.00) to Nationals HQ for our annual alumni dues.

Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra Stu Lavatai)
- Still awaiting reply from Fra Mark Sanchez to report
his findings for a CONFIRMED location for the Beta Delta (40th Anniversary)
Reunion. This event is tentatively scheduled for late April to early May
2003. John Paine to speak with Mark Sanchez.
- Prior Report (as per Fra John Paine)
- Fra Mark Klein, (Queens College, New York) business consultant, has
moved to Las Vegas.
- Octagon Counsel (no report)
- SAMMY Convention is scheduled for August (9th to 11th) in Pittsburgh, PA.
- We are seeking any Beta Delta alumni who will represent SVACoSAM at
the convention
- Fra Stu Lavatai will send out a general Email requesting for
volunteers. Update as of (Friday, July 19th): Fra Mark Versel (Beta
Delta) will represent SVACoSAM during the Convention Business Meeting.
- Update as of (Friday, July 19th): SVACoSAM Council are informing Fra
Versel about all Convention Legislation issues and sharing their opinions on
how he should vote. Fra Versel will have two votes during the business
voting session.
- San Jose State University (Beta Delta) and University of Washington
(Sigma Nu) have been approved, through the Octagon Council, for RUSH
efforts by National field representatives during Fall 2002.
- SVACoSAM will cost share and support National Field Reps visiting SJSU.
Fra Contreras will find out the exact date when the National field rep(s)
will arrive.
III. New Business:
- In Memory of Fra Chris Myhra (Beta Delta)
- Member of Pledge Class: BUDS
- He loved the S.F. Giants, S.F. 49ers, Spartan Athletics and his
family: wife (Aimee) and three children: Ages 8, 4 and
22months.
- All (July 16th alumni meeting) attendees signed a Condolenses Card for
Myhra's family. Monetary donations were attached to the card.

IV. Announcements:
- SAMMY Convention 2002 is scheduled to be held (in Pittsburgh, PA)
on August 9-11, 2002.
- Since SAMMY Regional Leadership
Conferences will be held around the nation, the Octagon Counsel have
decided to reduce the number of days, for the annual SAMMY
Convention, to ONLY three days.
If you are interested in attending a trip to Lake Pillsbury this summer
(the weekend of August 2nd) then, contact Fra Jim Ketchum via Email:

NOTE: The next SVACoSAM Council
meeting is scheduled for Tuesday (August 20, 2002). Please monitor your
