Meeting called to Order at 8:00pm by Fra John Paine, Prior.
Reading of previous Minutes were waived.
Present: John Paine, Vince Contreras, Jeff Kuch and Jacob Kuch (SAMMY
class of 2022), Mike Barko, Keith Barna, Jeff Zell, and Siatuu (STU)
Lavatai.
I. Old Business:
- Golf Scramble Tourney (as per Fra John Paine)
- Twenty-eight (28) golfers attended the Golf Tournament. Twenty SAMMIES
and eight Non-SAMMIES played. The best score was 62, Par was 72, and
worst was 82. The best scores were made by Non-SAMMIES.
- Cyber Groups (as per Fra John Paine)
- John Paine and Fra Jeff Zell designed a SAMMY website on Yahoo
Groups. You are invited to POST and READ messages from other
brothers throughout the world. (URL: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconvalleysammies)
- Read about current alumni news, the referral network, job
vacancies, upcoming brotherhood and social events and much more.
- If you have any questions about the NEW website, please send
all questions to the Group Moderators, via Email, John Paine (japaine1@aol.com)

- Presently, we have 151 members and 27 registered. If you have been
trying to post messages or view the SVACoSAM Yahoo website, you
may have to register for a Yahoo account.
- Annual Appeal and Alumni Donations (as per Fra Mike Barko)
- We received a ($43.00) donation within the month of May. All alumni
letters and mailings have been sent out.
All alumni are encouraged to
donate to SVACoSAM, since we do not require membership dues.
Donations support our administrative, mailing and other alumni club expenses.
If you would like to make donations to SVACoSAM, please contact

Octagon Counsel (as per Fra Vince Contreras)
- Nationals has ($1 million) for its annual budget.
- San Jose State University (Beta Delta) and University of Washington
(Sigma Nu) have been approved, through the Octagon Council, for RUSH
efforts by National field representatives during Fall 2002.
- SVACoSAM will cost share and support National Field Reps visiting
SJSU.
III. New Business:
- SVACoSAM Committees (as per Fra John Paine)
- Beta Delta 40th Reunion
- Awaiting to hear news about hotel reservations and costs from
Committee Chairman: Fra Mark Sanchez. (Tabled until next meeting).
- Reinstatement of Beta Delta
- Awaiting to hear from Fra Tim Burke. (Tabled until next meeting).
- Scholarships
- Fra Paine will contact Fra Terry Speizer to draft a Scholarship
Proposal.
- Social/Brotherhood Events
- San Jose Giants (as per Fra Jeff Kuch)- Team is away during May and he
will gather information concerning their home game schedule and report
at a future meeting.
- Annual summer pool/BBQ party (as per Fra Keith Barna)- He will check
with pool staff on facility availability. He will report his findings at
a future meeting.
- Charter Fishing trip- If there are any brothers who are members of a
local fishing club or know where we might be able to get a discount for
a SAMMY fishing charter trip, please send your information to the Vice
Prior's Email: (sammystu@hotmail.com).
IV. Announcements:
- SAMMY Convention 2002 is scheduled to be held (in Pittsburgh, PA)
on August 9-11, 2002.
- Since SAMMY Regional Leadership
Conferences will be held around the nation, the Octagon Counsel have
decided to reduce the number of days, for the annual SAMMY
Convention, to ONLY three days.
If you are interested in attending a trip to Lake Pilsbury this summer
(the weekend of August 2nd) then, contact Fra Jim Ketchum via Email:

NOTE: The next SVACoSAM meeting is OUR Quarterly Social which
is scheduled for Tuesday (June 18, 2002). Please monitor your Emails for
