Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2002

Meeting called to Order at 7:10pm by Fra Mike Barko, Prior.

Reading of previous Minutes were waived.

Present: Peter Hubert, John Paine, Lloyd Gordon, Jeff Kuch, Sean Nelson, Mark Davis, Keith Barna, Jeff Zell, and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.

I. Old Business:

  1. Golf Scramble Tourney (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. The Spring 2002 Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday (04/28/2002) at the Moffett Field Golf Course. Event cost: ($45.00). Fees pay for food & drinks, prizes, use of golf course and golf cart. Golf clubs can be rented on site. If you have questions contact the golf hosts via Email: Vince Contreras (DrWho@worldnet.att.net) or John Paine (japaine1@aol.com).
      1. We need (28 golfers) in order to reserve the golf course. We invite ALL SAMMIES, family and friends to attend. Presently, thirteen (13) golfers have paid. So, we need fifteen (15) more people to meet our quota.
      2. We encourage all amateur and interested golfers to attend.
      3. This event has been opened to all SAMMY, their family and friends. So, if you know anyone who wants to play, please inform them of our event.
  2. Cyber Groups (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. John Paine and Fra Jeff Zell designed a SAMMY website on Yahoo Groups. You are invited to POST and READ messages from other brothers throughout the world. (URL: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconvalleysammies)
      1. Read about current alumni news, the referral network, job vacancies, upcoming brotherhood and social events and much more.
      2. If you have any questions about the NEW website, please send all questions to the Group Moderators, via Email, John Paine (japaine1@aol.com) OR Jeff Zell (jeff@asinine.com).
  3. Logo (as per Fra Stu Lavatai)
    1. Thanks to logo designer, Fra Tom Lucente,for designing our Club Logo to be shown on our stationary, SAMMY flyers, etc.
  4. Alumni Donations (as per Fra Mike Barko)
    1. Thank you to all SAMMY fratres who donated to SVACoSAM. Donations received as of Tuesday ( March 19, 2002) totalled ($385.00).
      1. Donations were received from the following Fratres: Mike Barko, Vince Contreras, Bob Cornfield, Roland Echezarreta, Steven Fabricant, Michael Kennemer, Bob Krandel, Larry Lipman, Leonard Salle and David Zeff.
      2. We apologize to any alumni, who made donations to SVACoSAM, if your name was NOT included on our donation list. We collect donations all year round.
      3. All alumni are encouraged to donate to SVACoSAM, since we do not require membership dues. Donations support our administrative, mailing and other alumni club expenses.

II. Reports

  1. Recorder Report
    1. Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory.
  2. Exchequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
    1. The grand total of funds in the SVACoSAM bank account: $4,259.80, have NOT changed  drastically since last month.
  3. Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. Did not attend the SAMMY (2002) leadership conference, in Las Vegas, because the alumni sessions were cancelled due to minimal alumni registrations.
  4. Prior Report (as per Fra Mike Barko)
    1. Presently, we have received eighteen (18) responses from alumni, regarding election ballots, personal information, and donations.
      1. So far, all eighteen votes approved the Council nominees and changes to the Club's By Laws to reflect the NEW eight men Council. If you have any questions, please contact Fra Barko via Email (mbarko@corp.auspex.com).
    2. All alumni letters, election ballots and other Club documents have been mailed. Total mailing costs: ($630.00). Total Donations received: ($385.00).
  5. Octagon Counsel (no report)

III. New Business:

  1. Formation of SVACoSAM Committees (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. There was discussion about formation of group committees and committee reports. (Tabled until next Council meeting).
      1. Possible Group Committees: Social Events, Beta Delta 40th Reunion, Beta Delta Rush and more.
  2. An Agenda of meeting topics will be distributed to all Council before the next meeting, in order to enhance the flow of meeting dialogue.
    1. SVAGoSAM command and organization structure has been slightly altered. The NEW command and organization structure has been CONFIRMED as follows:

IV. Announcements:

  1. SAMMY Convention 2002 is scheduled to be held (in Pittsburgh, PA) on August 9-11, 2002.
    1. Since SAMMY Regional Leadership Conferences will be held around the nation, the Octagon Counsel have decided to reduce the number of days, for the annual SAMMY Convention, to ONLY three days.
  2. If you are interested in attending a trip to Lake Pilsbury this summer (the weekend of August 2nd) then, contact Fra Jim Ketchum via Email:     (jim@ketchumfinancial.com).
  3. Fra Chris "Murple" Hilton (Email: MurpleT@aol.com) has twenty-five (25) Sharks hockey tickets, for the Anaheim versus Sharks home game at the San Jose Compaq Arena, scheduled for Tuesday, (April 2, 2002). Start time is 7:30pm.

    NOTE: The next SVACoSAM Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday (April 16,2002). Please monitor your Emails for exact location and start time.
