Meeting called to Order at 7:30pm by Fra Mike Barko, Prior.
Reading of previous Minutes were waived.
Present: Vince Contreras, John Paine, Lloyd Gordon, Jeff
Kuch, Keith Barna and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.
I. Old Business:
- Golf Scramble Tourney (as per Fra John Paine)
- The Spring 2002 Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday (04/28/2002) at
the Moffett Field Golf Course. If you have questions contact the golf
hosts via Email: Vince Contreras (DrWho@worldnet.att.net)
or John Paine (japaine1@aol.com).
- We need (28 golfers) in order to reserve the golf course. We
invite ALL SAMMIES, family and friends to attend.
- We encourage all amateur and interested golfers to attend.
- Estimated event costs: ($45.00) which include golf clubs, golf cart,
use of golf course, lunch and door prizes.
- Cyber Groups (as per Fra John Paine)
- John Paine and Fra Jeff Zell are designing a SAMMY website on Yahoo
Groups. SAMMIES will be able to POST and READ messages from other
brothers throughout the world. Please continue to monitor your Emails
for website URL or address.
- Read about current alumni news, the referral network, job
vacancies, upcoming brotherhood and social events and much more.
- Logo (as per Fra Stu Lavatai)
- Thanks to logo designer, Fra Tom Lucente, SVAGoSAM has a Logo to
show on our stationery, SAMMY flyers, etc.
- Fra Mike Barko will contact Fra Lucente to change the logo from
Silicon Valley Alumni Group of Sigma Alpha Mu (SVAGoSAM) to Silicon
Valley Alumni Club of Sigma Alpha Mu (SVACoSAM).
II. Reports

Recorder Report
- Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory and preparing
ballot biographies for eight men council nominees.

Exchequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
- The grand total of funds in the SVACoSAM bank account: $4,259.80.

Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra John Paine)
- SAMMY Yahoo Cyber Groups website is still under
construction. Fra Paine is entering new data and updating the website
weekly.
- Brotherhood & Social events planned for 2002.
- Two golf tourneys, Stanford tailgates, Sharks hockey games, Black-Tie
theater shows, fishing trips, race track trips, Founders Day dinner,
Napa Wine Country trip, Frisbee Golf, Super Bowl Party, Broomball and
much more.
- Prior Report (as per Fra Mike Barko)
- Gathering over 1,000 local SAMMY alumni labels from SAMMY Nationals.
- Currently, (1,000 SAMMY alumni) labels have been affixed and
1,000 envelopes prepared to be stuffed for mailing.
- Any SAMMY alumni interested in volunteering for copying ballots or
stuffing envelopes, please contact Fra Barko via Email (mbarko@corp.auspex.com).
- Octagon Counsel (as per Fra Vince Contreras)
- SVACoSAM Constitution & By-Laws will be changed to show the NEW
(8-Men) Council organizational structure.
- Council term limits will be changed from two years to one year.
III. New Business:
- SAMMY Alumni Quarterly Social
- Social & Brotherhood events will be scheduled quarterly,
throughout the year. Alumni business will be kept to a minimum, so that
we can promote fraternity and brotherhood.
- The next SAMMY Alumni Quarterly Social is scheduled for Tuesday
(March 19, 2002) at 8pm, to be held at the Tied House (50 North San
Pedro Road, Downtown San Jose). Cross Streets are Saint John or West
Santa Clara Streets. If you plan to attend then, please send a RSVP
to the Recorder via Email: (sammystu@hotmail.com).
- SVAGoSAM (Eight plus One) Council
- SVAGoSAM command and organization structure has been slightly altered.
The NEW command and organization structure has been CONFIRMED as follows:
- Four (4) Council Members: Prior, Vice-Prior, Exchequer and
Recorder.
- Four (4) Counsel (Fratres elected by SAMMY Alumni who will assist
Council with Social and Brotherhood Events and offer consultation
when needed on specific issues).
- One Alternate Counsel (usually held by the former SVAGoSAM Prior)
who will be the deciding vote during any Council voting sessions.
IV. Announcements:
- SAMMY Convention 2002 is scheduled to be held (in Pittsburgh, PA)
on August 9-11, 2002.
- Since SAMMY Regional Leadership
Conferences will be held around the nation, the Octagon Counsel have
decided to reduce the number of days, for the annual SAMMY
Convention, to ONLY three days..
If you are interested in attending a trip to Lake Pillsbury this summer
(the weekend of August 2nd) then, contact Fra Jim Ketchum via Email: (jim@ketchumfinancial.com).
Fra Jeff Kuch will gather information regarding the San Jose Giants home
game schedule. Perhaps, we can schedule a SAMMY social event at the
ballpark.NOTE: If there are any alumni who want to attend the next SVACoSAM
Council meeting, on Tuesday (March 19,2002) at 7pm, to be held at the Tied
House in Downtown San Jose, then, please send a RSVP to the SVACoSAM
Recorder via Email: (sammystu@hotmail.com).
The Alumni Quarterly Social will begin at 8pm.
