Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
January 15, 2002

Meeting called to Order at 7:50pm by Fra Mike Barko, Prior.

Reading of previous Minutes were waived.

Present: Vince Contreras, John Paine, Lloyd Gordon, Mike Barko and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.

Absent:  Fra Jeff Kuch, Exchequer.

I. Old Business:

  1. Golf Scramble Tourney (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. Paine is currently looking for local golf courses that will accommodate our golf tournament. Please continue to monitor your Emails for golf tourney info and details, once a golf course has been reserved.
  2. Cyber Groups (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. John Paine and Fra Jeff Zell are designing a SAMMY website on Yahoo Groups. SAMMIES will be able to POST and READ messages from other brothers throughout the world. Please continue to monitor your Emails for website URL or address.
      1. Read about current alumni news, the referral network, job vacancies, upcoming brotherhood and social events and much more.
  3. Logo (as per Fra Stu Lavatai)
    1. Thanks to logo designer, Fra Tom Lucente, SVAGoSAM has a Logo to show on our stationary, SAMMY flyers, etc.
    2. Fra Vince Contreras will post the NEW logo on our SVAGoSAM stationary and bring it to our next SVAGoSAM Council meeting.

II. Reports

  1. Recorder Report
    1. Still Posting SAMMY Emails to the SAMMY directory.
  2. Exchequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
    1. The grand total: ($3, 551.00) has NOT change drastically since last month.
      1. Seven hundred dollars ($700) which was intended for the Sigma Sigma House Stove campaign will be kept in the SVAGoSAM bank account, since their house stove has already been purchased and installed. 
  1. Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. Beta Delta 40th Reunion is scheduled for April or May 2003. Please continue to monitor your Emails for exact details for this event.
    2. Brotherhood & Social events planned for 2002.
      1. Two golf tourneys, Stanford tailgates, Sharks hockey games, Black-Tie theater shows, fishing trips, race track trips, Founders Day dinner, Napa Wine Country trip, Frisbee Golf, Super Bowl Party, Broomball and much more.
  2. Prior Report.
    1. Prior - No Report
  3. Octagon Counsel (as per Fra Vince Contreras)
    1. National HQ has provided a ($50) discount for SVAGoSAM.
    2. Scholarships are available from the SAMMY Foundation and SAMMY National HQ. Please contact SAMMY National HQ for more info and details.
    3. Sigma Sigma is currently remodeling their house. Renovation is planned for the bathrooms and replacement of sidings and windows. The SAMMY Endowment fund will make available $42,026 to defray renovation costs.

III. New Business:

  1. SVAGoSAM (Eight plus One) Council
    1. SVAGoSAM command and organization structure has been slightly altered. The NEW command and organization structure has been CONFIRMED as follows:
      1. Four (4) Council Members: Prior, Vice-Prior, Exchequer and Recorder.
      2. Four (4) Counsel (Fratres elected by SAMMY Alumni who will assist Council with Social and Brotherhood Events and offer consultation when needed on specific issues.)
      3. One Alternate Counsel (usually held by the former SVAGoSAM Prior) who will be the deciding vote during any Council voting sessions.
  2. Proposal (as per Fra Contreras), seconded (as per Fra Mike Barko)
    1. SVAGoSAM Council will provide an invitation for any SAMMY National or Regional Officer to give a report during their visit to a SVAGoSAM Council meeting.
      1. Proposal was PASSED.

IV. Announcements:

  1. SAMMY Regional Leadership Conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 1-3, 2002. SAMMY delegates will be staying at the Alexis Hotel Suites.
    1. SVAGoSAM will send ONE representative, Fra John Paine, to this conference.
  2. SAMMY Convention 2002 is scheduled to be held (in Pittsburgh, PA) on August 9-11, 2002.
    1. Since SAMMY Regional Leadership Conferences will be held around the nation, the Octagon Counsel have decided to reduce the number of days, for the annual SAMMY Convention, to ONLY three days.
  3. The next SVAGoSAM Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday (February 19, 2002). Please continue to monitor your Emails for exact location and start time.
