Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
July 17, 2001

Meeting called to Order at 7:26pm by Prior: Mike Barko.

Reading of previous Minutes were waived

Present: Jeff Kuch, Bernie Greenfield, Mark Klein, Alex Keismer, John Paine, Vince Contreras, Lloyd Gordon, Terry Speizer, Jim Paine, Keith Barna and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.

I. Old Business:

  1. SVAGoSAM Election- Unanimous decision by SAMMY Alumni to elect Fratres Stu Lavatai (Recorder), Jeff Kuch (Ex-Chequer), John Paine (Vice Prior) and Mike Barko (Prior).
    1. Fra John Paine was officially sworn into the position of Vice Prior by Prior Mike Barko.
  2. Weekend at Bernie's
    1. Fra Bernie Greenfield will be hosting the 1st Annual SAMMY summer BBQ & swimming pool party at his home in Los Gatos on Sunday (July 22nd).
    2. Event scheduled from (11am to 3pm).
    3. You can bring a dish, if you like, but don't forget your swim trunks.
    4. If you need directions, then please contact the Recorder via Email (sammystu@hotmail.com).
  3. SVAGoSAM Scholarship(s)
    1. Any further discussion concerning Scholarships for SAMMY alumni offspring attending any colleges or universities (enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level) in any of the following 5 states: Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington, were to be suspended until further notice, while SVAGoSAM focused its funds and efforts at re-starting SAMMY chapters in California.
II. Reports
  1. Ex-chequer Report ( per Jeff Kuch)
    1. SVAGoSAM bank account (balance: $4,095.51)
      1. $1200.00 will be held, in the bank account, for a commercial stove to be purchased by Sigma Sigma.
      2. $50 will be paid to SAMMY National HQ for our Alumni group annual dues.
  1. Vice Prior Report. (as per Fra John Paine)
    1. Golf Scramble (Part II) is scheduled for October 26-27th.
      1. Event will be held at Moffet Field Golf Course, Mountain View, CA.
      2. More details concerning this event to be announced at a later date.
    2. Beta Delta 40th Anniversary
      1. Scheduled for 2003. If you are interested in joining and volunteering your services for the 40th Anniversary committee, please contact the Recorder via Email: (sammystu@hotmail.com).
  2. No Recorder or Prior Report

III. New Business:

  1. Re-Starting SAMMY chapters.
    1. SVAGoSAM will focus funds and energy to re-starting chapters in California.
    2. Vice Prior, John Paine will be representing SVAGoSAM at the convention.
    3. For more info concerning the convention, please check out your summer 2001 OCTAGONIAN or the SAMMY National HQ website at http://www.sam.org.

IV. Announcements:

  1. Fra & Mrs. Jeff Zell, a daughter, Cameron Elise, born on July 13, 2001 at 3:06pm. Measuring: 18.5 inches (7lbs 5oz).
  2. Fra Manny Rodriguez, a son, Nicolas Alexander, born on July 18, 2001 at 12:45am. Measuring: 20-21 inches (8lbs 12oz).
  3. Next Alumni meeting scheduled for August 21, 2001.
