Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2000

Meeting called to Order at 7:45pm by Prior: Mike Barko.

Reading of previous Minutes were waived

Present: Keith Barna (USC), Dean G. Lyulkin (UCSD), Mark Sanchez, Sean Nelson, Vince Contreras, John Paine, Mike Barko, Jeff Kuch and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai.

Absent: (Vice Prior, Jonathan Powell)

I. Old Business:

  1. Vince's wife completed tailoring two (2) SAMMY robes. They were presented at the meeting. They look fabulous!! SVAGoSAM will send Vince's wife a thank you letter or card.
  2. Homecoming Tailgater -- Tailgate was sponsored by SVAGoSAM and we PAID $200.00 to cover most of the food & drink expense. The total cost of the event: $203.17. Spunky & Bernie, you guys owe $3.17.
  3. Copacabana Musical (as per M. Sanchez)
    • Event at Center for the Performing Arts(San Jose). There are 30 seats that have been reserved, for us, during this Alumni/Wives event (if you don't have a wife, then, bring your significant other). Don't FRET, the seats are close together.
    • Costs:
      Tickets plus dinner (at Hilton Tower)= $154.00
Show ONLY (for Couples)............... $110.00
      Note: Dinner will be held at the Hilton Tower: City Bar and Grill(across the street from Center for Performing Arts).

    • If we get to the SHOW early, (like Pre-show), we have a lounge/parlor RESERVED!! What a DEAL!!
    • SHOW is scheduled for January 20, 2001. NOTE: Deadline for payment is (November 5, 2000). Let's get that money in, like NOW!! This event will SELL OUT, so first come, first serve!!
  4. Golf Outing, Moffet Field Course (as per J. Paine) --This event will be scheduled on Superbowl Saturday and estimated cost is $40.00. As we approach the event date, more details will be provided. Continue to monitor your e-mail. (DO NOT contact Paine concerning this event because he is still finalizing details with Golf staff).
  5. ** ATTENTION, ** If there are any SAMMIES who have or know of anyone that has a SAMMY Beta Delta pledge class paddle please contact STU at (sammystu@hotmail.com).
  6. SAMMY chapter: Sigma Sigma at UC Berkeley
    • Membership Status: 35 Actives & 4 pledges.
    • Financial Status: Slowly repaying its debt.
    • Sigma Sigma NEEDS Your ($$$) Donations. If you are interested in making a donation, then contact STU (sammystu@hotmail.com).
    • Fra John Doleson is working on getting Sigma Sigma funds for a Maintenance Allowance from the SAMMY Endownment Fund.
II. Reports
  1. Exchequer Report: (As of ending date: 10/17/2000) -- SVAGSAM bank statement account has a grand total of $3,270.07.
  2. No other reports.
III. New Business:
  1. Social Events
    1. Fra Fred Kipperman is leading a National SAMMY committee on increasing alumni involvement with the National Headquarters, their local chapters and alumni clubs. If you want more info, contact him via email at fkipp@yahoo.com.
    2. Motion made by Fra Sanchez:
      • SVAGoSAM will solicit funds towards the purchase of a NEW stove for Sigma Sigma chapter. Any Overages will go towards their RUSH efforts. (Motion was seconded by Fra Barna).
      • After intense discussion & negotiations, there were, 6 yeahs, 0 neahs, and 3 abstaintions.
      • Motion Passed!!
IV. Announcements:
  1. Jeff Zell Halloween MONSTER BASH at his house on Saturday Oct 28th. If you need details contact him via e-mail at jeff@asinine.com
  2. UC Davis alumni & actives, invite other SAMMIES to PARTY at the SAMMY house in Davis on Saturday, October 28th before and after their college's BIG football game against SAC State!!
  3. Fra Nelson, Paine & Kuch "calls ALL SAMMIES to the chair" for not showing up & drinking a cold one at the SJSU Homecoming football game.
  4. SJSU Men's Soccer team is #1 in the nation!!

  6. Let's ALL welcome Fra Dean G. Lyulkin, former prior of UCSD chapter, whose currently working as a research analyst for Fisher Investment (Woodside, CA).
