Silicon Valley Alumni Club Meeting Minutes
June 20, 2000

Meeting called to order at 7:15pm by Exchequer Jeff Kuch.

Reading of previous Minutes were waived

Present: Bill Rogers, Mark Davis, Vince Contreras, Mark Sanchez, John Payne, Jeff Kuch and Siatuu (STU) Lavatai "sometimes a recorder".

Absent: (Prior, M. Barko)

I. Old Business:

  1. SAMMY Robes
    1. There are a total of eight (8) robes owned by SVAGSAM.
      1. John Payne has six robes and Vince Contreras has two robes.
      2. Vince's wife, Debbie, repaired two robes.
      3. Mark Sanchez will send a Thank you letter to Debbie for her contribution to the repair/tailoring of the SAMMY robes.
    2. Sanchez informed Sigma Sigma chapter advisor, Rick Bartocelli, that SAMMY robes are available for fraternity use ONLY and remain property of SVAGSAM. Robes may be LOANED to them upon request.
II. Reports
  1. Exchequer Report:
    1. SVAGSAM has $3,408.42 in the bank account.
    2. SVAGSAM will send $50.00 to National HQ for Alumni National Dues.
  2. Prior & Recorder: NO REPORT!!
III. New Business:
  1. SAMMY Houston Convention (August 2000)
    1. J. Payne will send Sanchez a complete copy of all proposals/legislation issues to be voted on at convention.
    2. Beta Delta will have four (4) votes:
      • a. SVAGSAM gets two (2) votes.
      • b. J. Payne gets one (1) vote.
      • c. V. Contreras gets one (1) vote.
    3. SVAGSAM still contemplating who will represent Beta Delta at convention. (BOOGE where are you?)
  2. SVAGSAM discuss proposal to get MAJORITY of SVAGSAM members input on all proposals/legislation via massive e-mail & USPS (snail mail).
  3. RUSH: Strategies
    • Contact college transfers & newly high school graduates admitted to SJSU.
    • Contact cohesive peer groups (ie. friends from same religious, ethnic or social background).
    • Contact any SAMMY legacies being admitted to SJSU.
    • SVAGSAM will pay initiation dues for any pledge who rushes another Beta Delta pledge who completes the pledging process.
  4. SOCIAL EVENTS:
    1. Massive BASH at Mickey Hsieh's house on July 15th.
    2. Kuch getting details for golf outing. (should occur during fall).
    3. J. Payne will check on Moffett Field golf course fees for possible SVAGSAM golf outing.
    4. Brotherhood event at Bay Meadows on Sept 16th!! We will party in the "Turf Club," so bring your wallets & rabbits foot. (Estimated cost: parking $3 and Turf Club admission $15). You can afford it!! Show up!!
    5. Eric Graber has tickets to PAC BELL(Giants/Dodgers) game on July 1st.
    6. SVAGSAM want to plan a Brothers & wives retreat. Sanchez planning for outing to be held in Gilroy wine country. Updates will be sent to your e-mail or discussed in future SVAGSAM meetings.
IV. Announcements:
  1. UCSD grad, Fra Dean Gilken, new hire in the area, invited to Mickey's party. Make him feel welcome if you see him.
  2. Get ready for Beta Delta's 40th Anniversary to be celebrated in 2003! Not too far away!!
  3. M.Barko's brother died from a long terminal illness. Our condolenses and sympathies go out to the Barko family. A card was circulated & signed at tonight's meeting.
  4. On a BRIGHTER note: CONGRATS TO SJSU BASEBALL TEAM for being ranked in the top 8 nationally!!
  5. 5. Next SVAGSAM meeting on Tuesday, July 18th!!
