The meeting was held in the Guadalupe Room of the SJSU Student Union.

- Fra Lavatai said that Mark Davis "cashed-out" the Sigma Alpha Mu account by
writing him a check for $100. After expenses, the fraternity has $71.29
which Fra Lavatai will hold.
- Cash was used to pay for the trip to the Stanford game which had been
rained out.
- Fra Gutierrez asked a question about dues. Fra Lavatai explained that the
dues structure had been established early in the semester. Members would pay
monthly dues, national dues, and liability insurance. Initiation was $185,
monthly dues were $25. Dues for the semester are $300, but members would pay
for additional events such as pledge dances.
- Fra Lavatai asked for dues payments. Fra Burke said that Fra Macabeo
called him and said that Fra Courtney could hold his dues payment until next
week. Fra Burke also said that members paying in cash should be provided a
cash receipt upon payment. He also stated that members should be billed so a
receivables list can be established.

Social Report:
Fra Lavatai said that the StanFurd game had been rained out and that another
"brotherhood event" in the works was the CLOSING OF THE PUB. This event was
discussed as an annual Fra Snow event. Further discussion involved asking
the sorority Lambda Sigma Gamma to assist and then go to the Spaghetti
Factory after the Pub closed. It was thought the last day was May 13th, and
the pub closed at 8:00p.m.
- Fra Lavatai would contact the sorority.
- Fra Guiterrez would find out the actual closing times.
Old Business:
- Fund Raising Reports-T-shirt Report: Fra Courtney:
Fra Courtney said that he was still trying to find the time to work on the
design. It was mentioned that of the two T-shirt design companies Century
Graphics in Santa Clara was the cheapest. Fra Lavatai said that Sammies
should be prepared to fork over the initial costs to get the process
started.
- Fra Burke mentioned that Fra Jeff Zell had expressed interest in the coke
machine. Where is it so someone can look at it and what is the fraternity
charging for it? Fra Guiterrez said it was a functioning money maker for the
fraternity. Fra Lavatai said that it was at Mark Davis’ house on 5th Street.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- The Web site: There was a discussion on using the web site. Some of the
brothers mentioned that they were not familiar with using a browser or
accessing the web pages. Stu recommended that they go to the library and ask
for help. Tim said that he had web access at the Spartan Daily. Anyone that
needs help should come to his office and he’ll give them a quick
demonstration. There was then a discussion of the Secret Spooky Stuff area
of the site and what was there.
- SJSU Greek Life/Chapter President’s Verification form has to be done:
this is the Prior’s Job.
- Calendar Changes:
- Don’t forget the Convention in St. Louis
- May 6th is the last day to get a blurb in the Octagonian.
- May 16th is the deadline for Awards. We should apply for grades and
community service. Sammys had the highest GPA of all Greeks and geeks in the
Fall 97 semester.
- Party at Lake Pillsbury. Jim Ketcheum/Mark Snow: This should be posted on the
web site if it hasn't’t been done already.
- Close the freakin Pub. Set a date. Do a flyer. May 13th or May 21st
- Blues Festival: On Campus, Saturday May 9th. The Jakester (Mark Jacobson)
and the Portuguese man-o-beer (Doug Alexander) will be there.
